Strand Leads Huskers in North Carolina

Kelli Ann Strand put up a 71 (-1) to lead the Nebraska women’s golf team in the second round at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., on Saturday.

Strand, a sophomore from Challis, Idaho, used three birdies to overcome a pair of bogeys while recording 13 pars in a steady round. She climbed into the top 20 in the individual standings, sitting in a tie for 18th at 143 (-1) through 36 holes.

Freshman Arden Louchheim contributed Nebraska’s second-best individual round of the day with a 73 (+1). Junior Miu Takahashi added a 74 (+2) on the 6,194-yard layout at the Country Club of Landfall.

Michaela Vavrova rounded out Nebraska’s team score on Saturday with an 80, as the Huskers finished with a 298 (+10). NU slipped to 15th in the 18-team field through two rounds, heading to Sunday’s final round at 591.

The Huskers remain in front of No. 33 Maryland and No. 58 NC State along with the hosts from UNC Wilmington.

No. 25 Arizona moved to the top of team standings at 568 after a second-round 280 (-8). The Wildcats own a one-shot lead over No. 47 Tennessee at 569, after the Lady Vols produced a round of 279 (-9). No. 14 UCF and No. 29 Michigan State are tied for third at 570, while No. 16 Clemson rounds out the top five at 571.

Furman’s Anna Morgan continued to sit atop the individual leader board after firing a second-round 66 (-6). She enters the final round at 133 (-11) with a five-shot lead over Penn State’s Drew Nienhaus at 138.
