WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Mike Flood issued a statement after voting for H.R. 23, which was introduced by Congressman Adrian Smith of Nebraska. H.R. 23, also known as the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act, rescinds $80 billion of resources that would have allowed the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to hire 87,000 new agents.

“Thank you to my good friend Adrian Smith for his leadership in bringing the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act to help stop the Biden Administration’s federal government overreach. H.R. 23 repeals billions of dollars that Washington Democrats authorized this past summer to hire 87,000 new IRS agents. This dramatic expansion of the tax collector’s workforce would have allowed the agency to go after hardworking Americans who are simply trying to create good-paying jobs and keep a family budget. With this action today, our new Republican majority delivered on a key promise, and I look forward to continuing to pass additional pieces of our Commitment to America in the days and weeks to come.”
