DHHS Invites Nebraskans to Join the WIC Virtual 5K Event

Lincoln, NE – The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services invites the public to participate in the Nourish the Future of Nebraska Virtual 5K. This statewide initiative from the Nebraska Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) encourages WIC participants, family, friends, and community members to stay active, promote breastfeeding, and build a supportive community, no matter where you are.

Event Dates: June 1, 2025, to June 15, 2025
Location: Virtual – Run or walk 5K or more from anywhere that works for you!
Cost: Free!

Open to individuals of all ages and fitness levels, this virtual 5K allows you to participate at your own pace anywhere you choose. Whether walking, running, or rolling, everyone is welcome to join in promoting breastfeeding and physical activity across the state.

“The Nourish the Future of Nebraska Virtual 5K is about more than exercise; it is about connecting communities, promoting breastfeeding, and prioritizing physical health and well-being,” said Dr. Timothy Tesmer, DHHS Chief Medical Officer. “We encourage residents from across Nebraska to participate and make movement a part of their daily routine.”

Participants who register and complete the virtual 5K will receive a downloadable digital completion certificate. Sharing race photos and finish times using #NourishTheFutureNE is encouraged to foster a sense of shared achievement and motivation.
