Knights Softball lost its second matchup in one weekend to Cowley College Sunday. North Platte Community College took on the Tigers on their home turf in Arkansas City, Kan. and fell 19-1.
Sherea Ortiz was the first to step into the circle for North Platte. She gave up six hits and 11 runs over one and a third innings. Amya Blake-Cosper led the Knights with two hits in two at bats.
“It was a cold and wet day for softball,” said Janelle Higgins, NPCC head softball coach. “We had better energy to start the game but let the rain and wet conditions get to us. For a lot of our kids, this is the first time playing in the cold and rain, and it showed today.”
NPCC was supposed to play two games against Cowley, but the second was canceled due to the weather.
“This weekend was definitely a learning experience for our kids – travel, play, sit, then play in the rain,” Higgins said. “We learned a lot about ourselves and our team on the trip, and we need these hard teams and learning moments now and not in May.”
The Knights will return to Kansas Saturday where they will square off with host Hesston College in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
