May 18, 2025 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Virgil Apodaca #217432, age 57, died Sunday at a Lincoln hospital. He was incarcerated at the Reception and Treatment Center.
Apodaca’s sentence began on October 13, 2023. He was serving a 10 to 19 year sentence out of Lincoln County for second degree assault.
While the cause of death has not yet been determined, Apodaca was being treated for a medical condition. As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS), a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
