The North Platte Downtown Association in coordination with Keep North Platte and Lincoln County Beautiful will be holding the annual Downtown Cleanup on Tuesday, May 13th. The event is held annually as part of the Great American Cleanup which is the country’s largest community improvement program that kicks off in more than 20,000 communities each spring. This year kicks off the Greatest American Cleanup to join these communities in cleaning up our country in anticipation of it’s 250th birthday. The national program engages 2 million volunteers who take action in their region to create positive change and lasting impact.
The day will kick off with breakfast and a short meeting at 8:30 AM sponsored by NebraskaLand Bank at their downtown location. Volunteers will be split into groups to begin cleanup efforts. The cleanup will end at noon with volunteers receiving a snack sack. Volunteers don’t need to be present for the entire day. After the initial registration at NebraskaLand Bank, the headquarters will be moved to the corner of 5th and Dewey. Water and soda will be provided, and all other supplies will be available. Volunteers can stop in at any time during the day and stay for as long as they would like.
In March, Mayor Kelliher signed a declaration proclaiming support for and participation in the Declaration of Action for the Greatest American Cleanup. “On July 4, 2026 our country will be celebrating it’s 250th birthday. As members of this great nation, let’s each commit to picking up 25 pieces of litter to make it shine for it’s big birthday!”
“Many people contributing small acts, can make a big impact,” said Mona Anderson, Executive Director of Keep North Platte and Lincoln County Beautiful “We can make a big impact one piece of litter at a time.” Lori Burgman Downtown Association Cleanup Chairman agreed, “We all deserve to live in a clean and safe community. It is up to us to help create and maintain it.” The Downtown Cleanup will cover an area from B Street to Front Street and Willow Street to Poplar Street. People are asked to call Keep North Platte and Lincoln County Beautiful for more information at 308-534-8100.
