Lincoln, Neb. – The Huskers got their fourth consecutive sweep and fifth-straight win, as the Nebraska women’s tennis team (7-1, 0-0 Big Ten) remained hot, taking down South Dakota (3-7, 0-0 Summit League) with a 7-0 win on Tuesday evening.
Action started with doubles play. On Court Two, Nebraska’s No. 27 Anfisa Danilchenko and Ana Zamburek defeated South Dakota’s Sorcha Caves and Selena Bird, 6-2, for their 11th win of the season. To secure the doubles point, Lucy Loy and Isabel Adrover Gallego (Court Three) won in a 6-2 victory against the Coyotes’ Anna Medvyedyeva and Hitakamya Narwal, 6-2, to give the Huskers a one-point cushion. Maja Pietrowicz and Raphaelle Lacasse’s match on Court One was left unfinished as they held the 4-3 advantage.
With the 1-0 lead, the Huskers kicked off singles play. Pietrowicz finished first on Court Four with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Paige Alter. Dalichenko quickly followed with a win of her own over Medvyedyeva in straight sets (6-0, 6-2) on Court Two. Clinching the fourth point as well as the sweep for NU was Lacasse on Court One as she took down Bea Havlickova 6-0, 6-2. On Court Three, Adrover Gallego earned Nebraska’s fourth singles point in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) over Caves. Zamburek picked up another win against Bird, 6-3, 7-4 on Court Five. Maria Taranova battled back after dropping the first set and defeated Narwal in a tiebreaker (3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7)) on Court Six, securing the team sweep. The convincing effort from the Huskers marks their fourth consecutive sweep and their fifth-straight win.
