NEB SWIM&DIVE: Huskers Claim 12 Wins, Defeat Jayhawks

Nebraska swimming and diving dominated Kansas on Friday, taking home 12 wins out of 16 events.

Eight different Huskers claimed individual titles in the 187-113 team victory. Gena Jorgenson earned the first win of the night for Nebraska, swimming the 1000 freestyle in 10:07.89. The sophomore from Aberdeen, S.D. completed a perfect meet, taking first in the 500 freestyle (4:57.16) and the 400 IM (4:27.40).

Emily Haimes contributed strong performances with back-to-back individual victories in the 50 freestyle (23.97) and the 100 freestyle (51.76). She joined Lexi Kucera, Giulia Marchi and Beatrix Tanko in the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:26.87) to close the meet and contributed to the second-place 200 medley relay (1:45.21) with Gabby Donahue, JoJo Randby and Kucera.

Maia Hall swept the breaststroke events, clocking a strong 1:04.29 in the 100 breaststroke and a 2:18.63 in the 200 breaststroke. Randby pitched in a 1:04.52 in the 100 breaststroke to place second and a 2:23.10 in the 200 breaststroke to take third.

In the 200 freestyle, the Big Red notched a 1-2-3 finish led by Marchi (1:51.52). Anna Vlachou finished as runner-up in 1:53.58 and Kucera placed third with a time of 1:53.82.

Sarah Barton and Tanko each grabbed a butterfly win, with Barton swimming a 2:03.67 in the 200 butterfly and Tanko clocking a 55.87 in the 100 butterfly.

Barton added a hard-fought second-place finish in the 400 IM (4:30.62) and a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:05.59).

In the 100 freestyle, Marchi took second with a 52.21 and Kucera placed third with a 52.41. Caterina Bisiacchi had two solid distance swims with a 10:26.20 in the 1000 freestyle and a 5:07.37, taking second and third.

On the boards, Antonina Harned secured first on the three meter with a score of 331.50. Abby Baxter placed second on the one meter with a 285.53 and third on the three meter with a 315:23. Kelsey Clairmont added a third-place finish on the one meter, scoring a 284.03.

The Huskers continue their home slate on Friday, Nov. 10, hosting Iowa. Events will begin at 4 p.m. (CT) at the Devaney Natatorium.
