Huskers Start Off Strong, But Drop Match to #66 Purdue

West Lafayette, Ind. – Despite earning the doubles point, the Nebraska women’s tennis team (10-8, Big Ten 1-6) fell to No. 66 Purdue (11-7, Big Ten 4-4) 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

In doubles, the Huskers started off with a win on Court Three as Lucy Loy and Isabel Adrover Gallego defeated Purdue’s Juana Larranaga and Ashlie Wilson 6-1. Then, on Court Two, Boilermakers’ Kennedy Gibbs and Csilla Fodor defeated Ana Zamburek and Anfisa Danilchenko 6-3. This left Court One to decide the double point. No. 66 pair Raphaëlle Lacasse and Maja Pietrowicz came back from a two-game deficit to win 6-3 against Tara Katarina Milic and Carmen Gallardo Guevara, and NU earned the doubles point.

To start singles play, on Court One, Carmen Gallardo Guevara defeated Lacasse 4-6, 1-6. Courts Two and Three finished consecutively, with Danilchenko losing the match 1-6, 3-6 and Adrover Gallego falling 2-6, 4-6, giving Purdue a 3-1 lead. Tara Katarina Milic won 4-6, 6-7 against Lucy Loy to secure the win for No. 66 Purdue. Zamburek’s match on Court Four and Jillian Roa’s match on Court Six were left unfinished.
