Huskers lose to Illni to Complete their 12 Straight Match Homestand

Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska Women’s Tennis team (9-5, 0-4 Big Ten) lost to the Fighting Illini (11-6, 3-1 Big Ten) on Sunday.

Starting with doubles play, Isabel Adrover Gallego and Lucy Loy fell to Kasia Treiber and McKenna Schaefbauer 6-3 on Court Three. On Court Two, Anafisa Dalinchenko and Ana Zamburek took down Josie Frazier and Kida Ferrari 6-2. With the doubles point on the line, Raphaelle Lacasse and Maja Pietrowicz won five-straight games on Court One to grab the 6-2 win over No. 47 Megan Heuser and Alice Xu, and the pair improved to 3-0 against Big Ten foes. With the win, Lacasse earned her 20th win in the season and is 46-14 in her doubles collegiate career.

With the 1-0 lead, the Huskers moved on to singles play. On Court Six, Loy was swept in straight sets 3-6, 2-6 to even the score at 1-1. On Court Five, Pietrowicz lost with just two sets at hand 4-6, 5-7 against Kasia Treiber. Danilchenko won the first game against Schaefbauer on Court Two, but fell 3-6, 3-6 in the second and third. The deciding point came from Frazier, who defeated Adrover Gallego 6-1. 2-6, 3-6 on Court Three, bringing the Illini lead to 4-1. The match between Lacasse and Heuser on Court One (7-6, 4-6) was left unfinished, as well as the match on Court 5 between Zamburek and Ferrari (4-6, 7-5, 5-2).

Up next, the Huskers will hit the road for their first away conference matchups. NU will play at No. 72 Minnesota on Friday, March 29, at 4 p.m. (CT) before meeting No. 27 Wisconsin on Sunday, March 31 at 12 p.m. (CT).
