Huskers Welcome Pair of Ranked Big Ten Foes

Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team (9-4, 0-2 Big Ten) welcomes No. 35 Northwestern (11-4, 2-0 Big Ten) on Friday, March, 22 at 4 p.m. (CT). Then on Sunday, March 24 at 11 a.m. (CT) Nebraska faces No. 34 Illinois. The match will be live-streamed on Playsight, and stats will be available on huskers.com. Scouting Northwestern 

  • Junior Justine Leong is ranked No. 88 in singles and No. 50 with doubles partner Christina Hand.
  • Northwestern is ranked No. 34 after defeating No. 75 Rutgers 4-0 and No. 45 Maryland 6-1 last weekend.
  • NU’s roster consists of three graduate students, one senior, three juniors, one sophomore and two freshmen.

Series History vs. Northwestern 

  • Northwestern leads 10-2 against the Huskers. Last season, Northwestern swept Nebraska 4-0.

Scouting Illinois 

  • The Fighting Illini are undefeated in the Big Ten after defeating Maryland and Rutger earlier in the season.
  • Sophomore Mckenna Schaefbauer leads Illinois 11-5 in singles. Doubles pair Megan Heuser and Alice Xu lead with a 9-1 record in doubles play.
  • This is Evan Clark’s eighth year as head coach. Clark was named head coach after serving as the interim head coach during the 2015-16 season for the Illini.

Series History vs. Illinois 

  • Last season, Illinois edged out the Huskers 4-3. Illinois leads the series 6-5 all-time.
