Huskers to Duel Illinois on Senior Day

The No. 5 Nebraska men’s gymnastics team is set to host Big Ten opponent No. 2 Illinois this Sunday, March 10. The meet will commence at 2 p.m. (CT) at the Devaney Sports Center where the senior class will be honored along with a t-shirt giveaway while supplies last.
Last Time Out
NU took a second-place finish in this past weekend’s quad meet with California, Stanford, and Air Force, falling narrowly to Stanford in first (408.150-410.850). The Huskers impressed after taking two event titles and setting seven personal records.
Senior Cooper Giles pocketed the pommel horse title (14.20), and one of the Huskers captains, Sam Phillips, collected the all-around title (80.20). Both seniors are individually ranked among top gymnasts in the country based on a three-score average, with Giles in eighth position on pommel horse (14.267) and Phillips in fifth overall in the all-around (79.683).
Ahead of the meet, No. 5 Nebraska highlights the rankings in first place on vault (72.783) and second in the nation on high bar (68.933), based on a three-score average. The Huskers also occupy fourth position on floor (68.90), and pommel horse (67.60), fifth on rings (67.617) and seventh on parallel bars (67.55).
 
Scouting the Competition
No. 2 Illinois moves into the 10th week of competition with an overall record of 11-1, with their only loss coming from Michigan in the Windy City Invitational earlier this season. The Fighting Illini closed this past weekend’s competition with a first-place finish against William & Mary and Simpson (410.500).
Notably, Illinois swept the event titles with an Illini placing first in each event for the third time this season. The titles include McCool on floor (14.70), Dang on pommel horse (14.95), Anaya on rings (14.40), Sewell on vault (14.90), Petrosyan on parallel bars (14.15), Vanichtheeranont on high bar (14.00), and Schooley in the all-around (79.40).
