Huskers Set to Host Ameritas Masters Classic

he Nebraska women’s gymnastics team will welcome No. 4 Florida, Eastern Michigan and Lindenwood for the annual Ameritas Masters Classic on Saturday, March 9. Competition is set to start at 6 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on B1G+.

Saturday will mark Senior Night for the Huskers, who will honor Clara Colombo, Martina Comin and Kinsey Davis for their contributions to the program. NU will also recognize women’s gymnastics alumni before the meet begins.

The Gators lead the series with Nebraska, 26-10, while the Big Red holds a 1-0 lead in the series with the Eagles and a 3-0 lead against the Lions.

Last Time Out

NU hosted North Carolina, Southeast Missouri State and Illinois State and placed first with a season-best score of 197.125. The Huskers also earned season-high scores on beam (49.300), floor (49.450) and bars (49.425).

Nebraska claimed a share of all the event titles in the quad meet as well – Comin on vault (9.850), Emma Spence on bars (9.925), Isabel Sikon, Allie Gard and Ayzhia Hall on beam (9.875) and Comin and Sophia McClelland on floor (9.925). Spence also won the all-around title with a 39.475 that tied her season high.

The Big Red had six athletes tie or earn new career highs – Whitney Jencks on bars (9.900) and floor (9.850), Emma Simpton on bars (9.900), Sikon on beam (9.875), Gard on beam (9.875), Comin on floor (9.925) and McClelland on floor (9.925).

Scouting the Competition

The Florida Gators are ranked No. 4 on the Road to Nationals poll and average a 197.684 on the season with a high score of 198.225. They are 11-1 on the season with a 6-1 conference mark that was good for the SEC title. Florida is led by US Olympic Team member Leanne Wong, who won gold with Team USA at the 2022 World Championships.

The Eastern Michigan Eagles own a 7-5 record on the season, including 2-3 in conference competition. They are No. 40 in the Road to Nationals poll with an average of 195.267 this season and a high score of 196.450.

The Lindenwood Lions are ranked No. 48 in the Road to Nationals poll with an average score of 195.241 and a high mark of 197.075. They own a 8-2 overall record.
