Lindsey Thiele fired an opening-round 70 to sit in a tie atop the leader board after the first day at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational in Sarasota, Fla., on Sunday.

The senior from Wahoo, Neb., was one of three golfers in the 81-player field who ended the day at two-under-par, joining Ohio State’s Caley McGinty and Michigan State’s Brooke Biermann.

Thiele’s round featured five birdies and 11 pars, while she overcame a bogey and a double-bogey to end the day on top of the individual standings.

Consistent heavy rain eliminated the day’s second round, shortening the tournament to 36 holes. The 15 teams in the field are scheduled to play the final round on Monday morning on the 6,191-yard layout of the Champions Course at the Palm Aire Country Club.

Only seven golfers in the field managed rounds better than par in challenging scoring conditions on Sunday.

Kelli Ann Strand posted Nebraska’s No. 2 score of the day with a 76 (+4) to sit in a tie for 28th. Miu Takahashi and Sydney Harz settled for rounds of 82 (+10) to tie for 72nd and complete NU’s 310 (+22) team score. The Huskers enter the final round in 13th place.

Ohio State put up Sunday’s top team score with a 291 (+3), which was five strokes better than the College of Charleston (296) and six shots better than third-place North Carolina (297).

Monday’s final round is set to begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (CT).
