Huskers Set Personal-Bests at Nebraska Tune-Up

Nebraska track and field secured 12 wins at the Nebraska Tune-Up on Friday at the Devaney Center Indoor Track. A trio of athletes climbed the all-time list, while two posted marks that currently rank in the top-ten of the NCAA ahead of the Big Ten Championships week.

Brithton Senior ran a blistering 7.66 in the 60m hurdles to win the event with a personal-best. That time moves him up to second in the Big Ten behind teammate Darius Luff, ties him for eighth in the NCAA and fourth in school history. Till Steinforth ran a 7.86 to finish third overall and second amongst collegiate runners.

Niko Schultz ran a personal best 1:17.72 to win the 600m, moving up to fifth in school history and seventh in the Big Ten. Last weekend, Schultz ran the second-fastest 800m time in school history with a 1:47.75 at the Tyson Invitational. Holden Ruse placed second in the 600m with a personal-best time of 1:20.39.Berlyn Schutz took the crown in the women’s 800m with a time of 2:07.99 to set a new personal-best. Hayley Trotter (2:13.48) and McKenna Lovehaug (2:16.96) finished fourth and fifth respectively with personal-best times.

LaQwasia Stepney crossed the line at 8.71 to come away with the runner-up finish in the 60m hurdles. Nebraska rounded out the top four with a third-place finish by Favour Wanjoku (8.84) and a fourth-place finish by Abrielle Artley (8.91).

The Huskers took the top-three spots in the men’s 60m, headlined by Lorenzo Paissan running a 6.77 to finish first. Jeremiah Smith (6.80) finished second and Jaylen Lloyd (6.87) finished third in his collegiate sprinting debut. Seven Hicks ran a 7.62 in the women’s 60m to add another Husker victory. Bariborve Deebom (24.47) and Seven Hicks (24.58) took third and fourth in the women’s 200m. In the men’s 200m, Jacob Hyde clocked a 22.20 to finish third.

Seth Schnakenberg threw a personal-best mark of 62-1 (18.92m) to win the weight throw. Brett Schwartz added to the tally of Nebraska PRs with a throw of 61-10 ½ (18.86m) to finish second. Sage Burbach threw a PR of her own with a 50-4 ½ (15.35m) to take third in the women’s weight throw.

In the mile, Ali Bainbridge won the women’s race with a personal-best time of 4:50.85 and Gabe Nash ran 4:11.47 to win the men’s race. Sadio Fenner (4:13.89) and Colby Erdkamp (4:17.65) added top-five finishes. Karlie Moore was Nebraska’s top finisher in the women’s 400m with a time of 57.88, which is her best time this season. Emma Ralston adds to the Husker victories with a first-place finish in the women’s 3000m, running a personal-best 10:04.63.

Ashriel Dixon was NU’s top finisher in the men’s long jump, taking fifth with a mark of 21-2 ½ (6.46m). Favour Wanjoku finished fourth in the women’s long jump, leaping 17-4 (5.28m).

In the women’s pole vault, Jessica Gardner took home fourth place, clearing an indoor personal-best 13-4 ½ (4.08m). Till Steinforth (16-2, 4.93m) was NU’s top finisher in the men’s pole vault.

Brooklyn Miller cleared 5-7 (1.70m) to tie for second in the women’s section of the high jump. Rebecca Pecora came in fourth after she jumped 5-5 (1.65m). Tyus Wilson won the men’s high jump with a mark of 7-0 ¼ (2.14m), while Reid Nelson (6-9 ½, 2.07m) came in third.

Tyler Brown came away with the victory in the men’s shot put with a mark of 52-7 ¼ (16.03m). Amelia Flynt won the women’s shot put, throwing 55-3 ½ (16.85m).

The NU men (Cory Berg, Gabe Nash, Ruse, Joseph Clifford) took second in the 4x400m relay clocking a time of 3:16.39. In the women’s 4x400m relay, the Huskers (Moore, Arianna Walker, Marie Pfannenstiel, Quincy Hubert) came away with third running a 3:52.76.

Select Nebraska jumpers competed at the Iowa Open on Friday. Micaylon Moore highlighted the day, leaping 54-0 1/2 (16.47m) in the triple jump. That mark set the facility record, ranks first in the Big Ten, ranks sixth in the NCAA and is the third-farthest distance in school history. Rhianna Phipps won the women’s triple jump with a mark of 42-6 1/2 (12.96m), while Velecia Williams (20-7 1/4, 6.28m) and Lishanna Ilves (19-11 1/2, 6.08m) represented NU in the women’s long jump.

The Huskers are set to take on the Big Ten Indoor Championships Feb. 23-24 in Geneva, Ohio at the SPIRE Institute.
