Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team (5-1, 0-0 Big Ten) cleaned up with two 7-0 sweeps on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Dillon Tennis Center. The Huskers took down North Dakota (2-6, 0-0 Missouri Valley) first, at their 9 a.m. match, and Montana (0-4, 0-0 Big Sky) at their 5 p.m. match.
The Huskers started off the day against North Dakota with doubles. At the No. 1 spot, No. 25 doubles pair Ana Zamburek and Anfisa Danilchenko defeated Sela Sapir and Andrea Jannson on a match-winning double fault, 6-1. On Court 3, Maria Taranova and Jillian Roa secured the doubles point, and the Huskers were up 1-0 going into singles play. Maja Pietrowicz and Isabel Adrover Gallego were tied 4-4 on Court 2 when the match was left unfinished.
Then singles action started, and the Huskers took the first set on all courts. On Court 6, Lucy Loy made quick work of Bowles and cruised to the 6-0, 6-1 victory. On Court 4, Zamburek swept Jule Schulte 6-1, 6-3, before Danilchenko defeated Andrea Jansson 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot, to secure the winning point for the Huskers. Pietrowicz followed suit, defeating Nore Heinitz 6-3, 6-2. On Court 5, Freshman Maria Taranova defeated Aubin, 6-4, 6-3, and Adrover Gallego closed out the 7-0 sweep on Court 1 with the 6-2, 3-6, 1-0[10-8] victory.
NU then faced Montana in the second match of the day. Starting with doubles, Raphaëlle Lacasse and Pietrowicz secured the 6-0 win against Kelsey Phillips and Hailey Murphy on Court 1. Loy and Adrover Gallego followed suit and snatched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over the Griz on Court 3. Danilchenko and Zamburek were tied 4-4, and the match was left unfinished.
With the 1-0 lead, the Huskers started singles play. Taranova got the first singles win over Montana’s Rosie Sterk 6-0, 6-1 on Court 6. Adrover Gallego grabbed the third point with a 6-0, 6-2 win on Court 2. Jillian Roa then defeated Ivayla Mitkova 6-1, 6-0 on Court 6 to seal the win for Nebraska. Anfisa finished on Court 1, 6-0, 6-3 to defeat Kelsey Phillips. On Court Pietrowicz was forced into a 10-point tiebreak and won, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 [10-2]. On Court 4, Zamburek won in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (3) against Rosie Olivia Oosterbaan to sweep both matches Saturday and earn the 7-0 victory.
