huskers-2

Nebraska swimming and diving hosts Rutgers for a two-day dual Feb. 2-3 at the Devaney Natatorium.

Events are set to begin at 5 p.m. (CT) on Friday and 10 a.m. (CT) on Saturday, with senior day festivities preceding Saturday’s competition. The Huskers will be honoring five seniors, including Sarah Barton, Caitlin Cairns, Gabby Donahue, Emily Haimes and Lexi Kucera.

The five-member class has combined for seven Academic All-Big Ten awards, three Big Ten Distinguished Scholar awards and has spent a combined 24 semesters on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.

The team is coming off a road win against Illinois (169-131), where Gena Jorgenson set a school record in the 1000 freestyle (9:41.68). The sophomore blew past the previous record of 9:48.15 set by Audrey Coffey in 2020.

Including Jorgenson’s 1,000 freestyle time, Nebraska broke five facility records at ARC Pool en route to its victory.

A 400 freestyle relay team of Jorgenson, Emily Haimes, Giulia Marchi and Beatrix Tanko logged a time of 3:23.73 for the pool record. Jorgenson added her second pool record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:49.04.

Freshmen Tanko and Anastasia Tichy set records of their own in the 100 butterfly (53.98) and the 200 butterfly (1:59.22).

Nebraska divers captured the top-three spots on both the one meter and three meter, with Abby Baxter winning the title in both events. The freshman posted a score of 296.18 on the one meter and a 331.65 on the three meter.

The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 199-99 win over Villanova on Jan. 20, where they tabbed 13 victories. They are led by freshman Elysha Pribadi, who’s posted three top-ten times for Rutgers this season in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 200 IM. Pribadi has also captured two Big Ten Freshman of the Week Awards.

The Huskers mark the end of their regular season against Rutgers. Next up for the team will be the Big Ten Championships in West Lafayette, Ind. from Feb. 21-Feb. 24.

Live results for this weekend’s meet will be available on Meet Mobile and huskers.com, with live video provided on the Huskers YouTube page.
