Nebraska swimming and diving defeated Illinois 169-131 Saturday morning behind six facility records and one school record.
Gena Jorgenson shattered her career-best time in the 1000 freestyle. The sophomore from Aberdeen, S.D. touched the wall in an impressive 9:41.68 to capture a first-place finish, a facility record and Nebraska’s school record.
She added another first-place finish and a facility record in the 500 freestyle (4:49.04) and a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:00.05).
Jorgenson teamed up with Emily Haimes, Giulia Marchi and Beatrix Tanko for a win and facility record in the 400 freestyle relay (3:23.73).
Tanko posted a 53.98 in the 100 butterfly. Finishing closely behind in third and fourth were Caitlin Cairns (55.51) and Anastasia Tichy (56.22).
Freshman Tichy’s time of 1:59.22 in the 200 butterfly set a facility record at Arc Pool. Sarah Barton posted a second-place finish (2:01.01) and Caterina Bisiacchi finished third (2:03.05).
Barton added a first-place finish in the tenth event of the day, touching the wall in 1:59.15.
JoJo Randby and Maia Hall finished first (1:02.43) and second (1:02.67) for the Big Red in the 100 breaststroke. Hall captured another runner-up finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.64).
Freshman Anna Vlachou took second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.62, while Marchi took third (51.98).
The Husker divers captured the top-three spots of the three-meter diving competition. Abby Baxter posted a career-best score of 331.65 to take the title. Frankie Webb took second (295.73) and Kelsey Clairmont finished third (294.45).
NU again claimed the top-three spots in the one-meter diving competition. Abby Baxter earned her second victory on the day, with a score of 296.18. Antonina Harned finished second (291.90) and Kelsey Clairmont finished third (271.58).
The Huskers are back home next weekend for a two-day meet with Rutgers. The first session kicks off Friday, Feb. 2 at 5 p.m. (CT) and the second session begins Saturday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. (CT).
