Nebraska swimming and diving opens the second half of the season with a dual against Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 27 in Champaign, Ill. The Huskers capped off the first half of the season with a victory at the Hawkeye Invitational in early December.
Five Husker swimmers hit NCAA B Cuts at the invitational in Iowa City, Iowa, including freshmen Beatrix Tanko and Anastasia Tichy. The two swam for career-best times of 53.26 in the 100 butterfly and 1:58.87 in the 200 butterfly, respectively.
JoJo Randby and Maia Hall both added B standards in the 100 breaststroke with times of 1:00.54 and 1:01.20. Hall earned her second B cut of the meet in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.18).
Sophomore Gena Jorgenson swam for two B cuts of her own in the 500 freestyle (4:43.87) and 1650 freestyle (16:15.82).
The Huskers also achieved relay success at the Hawkeye Invite, with Jorgenson, Caterina Bisiacchi, Lexi Kucera and Giulia Marchi combining for an 800 freestyle relay victory (7:18.69).
The Huskers divers capped off their fall campaign at the CAMO International Invitational in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Freshman Antonina Harned earned a third-place finish in the three-meter dive with a score of 260.10 on five dives.
Kelsey Clairmont logged a zone qualifying, fourth-place finish on the platform (227.40), while Abby Baxter took a sixth-place finish with a zone-qualifying score of 241.75 on the three-meter. Both scores were on five dives.
The Fighting Illini (2-5) are led by Sydney Stoll. The junior from Hartland, Wis., currently holds the school record in the 100 IM (55.77). In a recent meet with Purdue and Missouri (Jan. 13), Stoll captured three titles in the 200 freestyle (1:50.11), 100 butterfly (54.84) and 200 IM (2:02.13).
In a matchup in Lincoln last season (Jan. 21, 2023), the Huskers outlasted the Fighting Illini 168-132. Jorgenson set a pool record at the Devaney Natatorium in the 1000 freestyle (9:53.58), and the Huskers added nine other first-place finishes on the meet. Nebraska holds an 8-2 dual edge over Illinois in the last 10 meetings.
