Huskers Head South to Take On Miners

The No. 8 Nebraska rifle team (4-7, 2-2 PRC) will travel to El Paso, Texas, to compete in a pair of matches against No. 19 UTEP (1-5, 0-4 PRC) this weekend. Matches are set for Jan. 27 and 28 with both starting at 10 a.m. (central), and fans can follow along with live results here.

“UTEP will give us two more opportunities to post good match scores,” Nebraska Head Coach Mindy Miles said. “The team will be refining their performance to shoot at PRC Championships next weekend and NCAA qualifiers on Feb. 17. We are excited for the opportunity to show what the team is capable of.”

Most recently, the Huskers faced off against Georgia Southern at home and fell by a score of 4,725-4,702 on Jan. 20. Senior Cecelia Ossi placed second overall (1,187), while earning second-place finishes in both the smallbore (590) and air rifle (597). Sophomore Emma Rhode placed fifth overall (1,179) and junior Mackenzie Strauch grabbed a career-best 594 in the air rifle to place fifth in the event.

The Miners are 1-5 on the season. Their win came in the season-opener against Schreiner. All five of their losses have come against top-10 teams, including setbacks against No. 2 TCU, No. 7 Air Force, No. 9 Murray State and No. 9 Ohio State. UTEP averages an aggregate score of 4,585.40.

Nebraska and UTEP have met 19 times, with the Huskers owning a 14-5 advantage in the series. The two teams last faced off on Nov. 20, 2022, when NU posted a 4,712-4,613 victory.

Following this weekend, NU will travel to the PRC Championships in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Feb. 3-4.
