Riverside, Calif. – The Nebraska women’s tennis team started its 2024 campaign with a 7-0 defeat of UC Riverside on Tuesday afternoon in California.
The Huskers started its season under German Dalmagro and Maddie Kobelt with a sweep of the doubles matches where No. 32 Anfisa Danilchenko and Ana Zamburek beat UCR’s Brionna Nguyen and Kamya Nair, 6-0. Newcomers Maja Pietrowicz and Maria Taranova then bested Sydney Tran and Niki Shahbazi, 6-1, to clinch the doubles point. In the third spot, Isabel Adrover Gallego and Lucy Loy topped Olivia McIntosh-Adams and Crystal Kim, 6-2.
Singles play began with senior Adrover Gallego winning 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 slot. Next, Zamburek defeated Niki Shabazi, 6-1, 6-3, before junior Loy clinched the overall match win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory. Graduate Pietrowicz finished next and won 6-2, 6-3, before Taranova defeated Kamya Nair, 6-2, 6-2, and Danilchenko topped Maya Yousef, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
Up next, the Huskers return to Lincoln for their home opener as they host DePaul on Friday, Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. (CT). Match will be streamed on Playsight and live stats will be posted on huskers.com.
