Huskers to Open 2024 Campaign at Iowa State

The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team will travel to Ames, Iowa, on Friday, Jan. 5, to take on the Iowa State Cyclones in the first dual of the year for both teams. The meet is set to start at 6:30 p.m. (CT) and will take place at the Hilton Coliseum.The last time the two teams faced off was on Jan. 7, 2022, when NU defeated the Cyclones by a score of 194.425-194.350. The Huskers hold a 99-14-1 lead in the series.The 2024 Nebraska squad is made up of 22 gymnasts total, including 17 returners and five newcomers. NU will return international competitors Emma Spence and Csenge Bácskay, along with second-team All-Big Ten honorees Kinsey Davis and Sophia McClelland. Spence was also a first-team All-Big Ten member in 2023. The returners also include Clara Colombo, Martina Comin, Genesis Gibson, Ayzhia Hall, Katie Kuenemann, Halle Rourke, Emma Simpton, Savanah Warren, Katelyn Barth, Emalee Frost, Allie Gard, Lauren Homecillo and Annie Worley.Utah transfer Lucy Stanhope and freshmen Olivia Burns, Whitney Jencks, Jenna Sartoretto and Isabel Sikon will compete in their first meet for the Huskers. 

Last Time OutThe Big Red finished the 2023 season in the second round of the NCAA Regionals, scoring a 195.525. Nebraska also finished in sixth at the 2023 Big Ten Championships with a total score of 196.275. 

Scouting the CompetitionIowa State returns 13 gymnasts from last year’s team, along with six freshmen. The Cyclones finished with an 8-10 record in 2023 and an 0-3 mark in conference competition. They are led by six seniors.

Head Coach Ashley Miles Greig is in her first season at the helm.
