Suspect, Victim Identified in Superior Homicide Investigation

DECEMBER 18, 2023 (SUPERIOR, NEB.)  — A suspect has been arrested for second degree murder following a shooting that occurred late Sunday evening in Superior.

The incident occurred shortly before midnight in Superior. The Nuckolls County Sheriff’s Office and Superior Police Department responded to the report of a shooting at 1216 Idaho Street in Superior. Upon arrival, deputies located a victim inside the home with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Molly Gruber, 35, was transported to Brodstone Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Authorities also located the suspect, who had remained at the scene. He was taken into custody without incident. The Nuckolls County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol to investigate the shooting. There was a child in the residence at the time and was placed in protective custody.

The suspect has been identified as Sebastian Dunbar, 30. The two had been involved in a relationship. Following preliminary investigation, investigators have determined that the shooting occurred during a domestic dispute between Dunbar and Gruber.

Dunbar has been arrested for second degree murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony, and domestic violence. He has been lodged in Clay County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
