Huskers Secure Second Place Seed at Motiv Lady Jack Classic

Kenosha, Wis. – The Nebraska bowling team dominated the lanes during day two of the 2023 Motiv Lady Jack Classic, tallying a total pinfall of 10,368. The Huskers secured a 4-1 record on day two and a second overall seed for tomorrow’s final bracket placements.

Coming off a second place standing in day one, the Huskers were ready to start day two against Aurora University. Freshman Brenna Hartzler led the Huskers with a 224, followed by sophomore Jillian Martin at 205. Kayla Verstraete tallied a total of 204 followed by leadoff Anna Callan at 188. Junior Alexis Buchert rounded out the first match with a 183, giving the Big Red its first win of the day 1,004-931.

Nebraska was ready for match two: a top ten match-up featuring No. 2 Arkansas State. Buchert would lead the Huskers with a massive 244. Martin continued the fire adding a 237 to her total with Verstraete close behind at 225. Hartzler added a 185 to the team total with Callan rounding the Big Red out at 177, for an 1,068-902 win.

Feeling good going into match number three, the Cornhuskers faced Lewis University. Martin took a strong lead in the standings by leading the team at 225 with Buchert tallying a 221. Hartzler provided a 191 with Verstraete close at 182 before Callan would close out the Cornhuskers at 179, good for a 998-924 win.

Match four was Nebraska’s second top ten match-up of the day featuring No. 6 Youngstown State. Callan led the Big Red at 204 with Martin right behind at 202. Verstraete tailed a 200 and Hartzler at 191. Junior Alexis Buchert would round out the Cornhuskers at 183. This is Nebraska’s second loss at the Motiv Lady Jack Classic 980-1,068.

The final match of the day would be a success for the Big Red against No.14 McKendree University. Hartzler led the pack at 268 and Callan at 227. Martin followed closely behind with a 223 and Verstraete tailed a 214. Buchert would round out the Big Red at 196, good for a 1,128-949 win.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow morning beginning at 8:20 (CT) with a bracket-play championship for final placements. Each team will play three best-of-seven Baker matches to finalize overall tournament standings based on total pinfall seeding.
