NEB XC: Huskers Ready for NCAA Midwest Regional

The Nebraska cross country team is set to take on the NCAA Midwest Regional in Stillwater, Okla. on Friday, Nov. 10. The women’s race begins at 10:30 a.m. and the men’s race starts at 11:30 a.m.

Nebraska will be one of 37 teams taking the Greiner Family Cross Country Course on Friday.

The Husker women head into Friday ranked fourth in the regional, right behind Northwestern. The Wildcats finished sixth at the Big Ten Championships, right ahead of Nebraska’s seventh-place finish.

The top two teams in each of the nine regional sites automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, along with the top four regional finishers not from an automatic qualifying or at-large team. After regionals, the NCAA DI Cross Country Subcommittee selects 13 at-large teams and two at-large individuals.

Last Time OutAt the Big Ten Championships, the Husker women finished seventh with 193 points, tying their best team finish at Big Tens. In 2011, Nebraska finished seventh during its first season in the Big Ten.

Ali Bainbridge led the way for NU, clocking a 21:42.8 to finish 19th. The freshman from Sioux Falls, S.D. was Nebraska’s No. 2 runner the last two meets, finishing eighth at the Gans Creek Classic (21:08.7) and second at the Platte River Rumble (21:04.16).

Hannah Godwin claimed 40th with a time of 22:14.9 and Berlyn Schutz took 43rd with a 22:16.3. Brynna McQuillen ran a 22:28.3 and Taya Skelton crossed the line at 22:31.4, providing 51st- and 53rd-place finishes.

On the men’s side, Trevor Acton finished 60th with a time of 25:56.2. Jerry Jorgenson (26:41.1), Sam Kirchner (26:41.6) and Colby Erdkamp (26:42.4) placed 92nd, 93rd and 94th. Cal Puskar rounded out the scoring runners with a time of 26:47.5 to place 99th. The team finished 12th with 351 points.
