NPCC Softball Wins Two at Hastings

Hastings, Neb. – Knights Softball defeated Hastings JV in both games of a road doubleheader Tuesday afternoon – the second time they’ve swept the Broncos this season.

North Platte Community College sealed the deal in a 15-4 blowout victory in game one.

The Knights got things moving in the first inning, when Krysta-Lyn Lewis singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

North Platte racked up 11 hits on the day – led by Elena Montoya who went 3-for-3 at the plate. Lewis, Kelsey Woodhouse and Amya Blake-Cosper managed multiples as well.

NPCC notched seven runs in the fifth inning thanks to the efforts of Montoya, Lewis, Woodhouse, Lili Kukučková, April Grace and Juliana Ortiz.

Angelina Lockhart started out in the pitcher’s circle for North Platte. The righthander surrendered four runs on one hit over five innings, striking out four.

The Knights took the lead late in the second game to down the Broncos 7-5. The game was tied at five with NPCC batting in the top of the seventh when Lockhart doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.

Grace toed the rubber for the Knights. She went five and a third innings, allowing five runs on three hits and striking out three.

Kukučková led with three hits in three at bats.

“We came out with a high energy and great attitude and kept it all day,” said NPCC Head Softball Coach Janelle Higgins. “Everyone stepped up and played together.”

The wins bump North Platte up to 10-19 on the season.

The Knights will return home for their next set of games. They will square off against the Central Community College Raiders Friday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
