2023 Fatalities on NE Roadways at 5-Year Low

During the month of February 2023, fifteen people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways, according to data collected by the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

  • These 15 fatalities occurred in 14 fatal crashes.
  • Nine of the fifteen vehicle occupants killed were not using seatbelts, three were using seatbelts, and
    three had seatbelt usage marked as unknown.
  • Ten of the fatalities were in rural locations*.
  • There was one fatality on the interstate, eight on other highways, and six on local roads.
  • Icy roads were a contributing factor in one of the fatality crashes.
