Wednesday evening around 11:30 the Lincoln County 911 Center received a disturbance report from a resident at Lake Maloney. According to a Facebook Post from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the homeowner advised two injured and intoxicated teenagers came to his door. The female and male advised they had driven their vehicle into the Nebraska Public Power District Canal somewhere near the Outlet Camping Area. The two left the residence once they were informed Law Enforcement was called. Deputies searched the area all night for the vehicle and teenagers with no luck.
During the morning hours of June 30, 2022, with the assistance of Nebraska Game and Parks Conservation Officers and the Lincoln County Dive Team, the vehicle was located in the canal about two hundred yards north of North Maloney Drive, Lake Maloney. The vehicle was completely submerged in the canal and not visible. Upon locating it the vehicle was removed from the canal and sent with a local tow company. Deputies were able to find the female driver and male passenger. They sustained minor injuries and were very lucky. The driver will be issued a citation for various violations. Alcohol clearly was a factor in the accident according to the Lincoln County Sheriffs Office.
