Huskeradio’s Tanner Struckman was honored this week at the 2022 North Platte Catholic Schools Athletic Banquet, receiving the “Pride of the Irish” Award.  According to a statement from North Platte Catholic Schools Superintendent Kevin Dodson, the Pride of the Irish Award has served to honor those who go above and beyond to support the mission and activities of the North Platte Catholic Schools. The award is announced annually at the St. Pat’s High School Activities Recognition Banquet, and honorees are recognized on a plaque at St. Pat’s. This year the Pride of the Irish honor was bestowed upon two outstanding individuals. One who shows amazing support publicly, and another who works primarily behind the scenes. Both award winners are tireless, vocal supports of the St. Pat’s Irish. The 2022 Pride of the Irish Award winners are Tanner Struckman of Huskeradio, and Maddy Krebs, St. Pat’s Volleyball Coach and Co-Athletic Director.

Tanner Struckman has been the “Voice of the Irish” for ten years. Traveling hundreds of miles to cover countless games. During this time, Tanner has gone above and beyond in his commitment to promoting Irish Activities.  He brings great pride to our community through his professionalism and his genuine joy for the Irish. Superintendent Dodson said “he has not only grown the fan base for Irish athletics, but he has expanded the ability for fans near and far to enjoy his coverage through video streaming. In addition to the duties of his job, Tanner has selflessly emceed numerous events, been a constant positive voice in the community, and promoted the North Platte Catholic Schools and students at every opportunity”. “Tanner is the best in the business, and St. Pat’s is happy to call him the Pride of the Irish,” said Dodson.  Struckman has served as the “Voice of the Irish” since 2012 and currently serves as Huskeradio’s Operations Manager and Sports Director.  Struckman has been voted the #1 Sports Broadcaster in North Platte several times and the “Radio Personality of the Year” in 2019 and again in 2020 and 2021. Struckman and his wife Krista have four children together.

Also receiving the Pride of the Irish award was alumnus Maddy Krebs. Coach Krebs took the helm for the Lady Irish volleyball team in 2020. Then, in the fall of 2021, she stepped in to aid the St. Pat’s Activities Association as an assistant to the Athletic Director. While her initial focus was to provide organization, respond to email messages, handle logistics for events… Maddy quickly jumped in with both feet to help in every capacity. Whether it be setting up the concession stand for events, greeting visiting teams and officials, cleaning up after events, contracting events,  coordinating volunteers… There is no job she said no to. Coach Krebs has also been instrumental in creating a culture of sportsmanship among students and fans at St. Pat’s… This culminated in bringing home the Class D-1 Sportsmanship Trophy at the 2022 State Basketball tournament.
