
Many area athletes and a few teams qualified for the State Golf Meets next week, as district tournaments were held on Monday in the rain. North Platte Saint Pat’s led the way, winning the D-4 District at Loomis including taking first and second individually. Paxton also qualified as a team in the D5 meet and North Platte, Sutherland, Sandhills-Thedford and Mullen all had individual qualifiers for state next week.
The state meets will be held Tuesday and Wednesday next week at various sites around the state.
A-1 District at Kearney:
North Platte narrowly missed out qualifying as a team, coming in fourth with a team score of 332. Gretna won the invite with a 284. Individually though, Blake Barner came in ninth place to qualify, shooting a 79. The Class A State Golf Meet will be held at Norfork Country Club in Norfolk. C-5 District at Bridgeport:
Sutherland’s Ty Monie represented the area in the C-5 District meet in Bridgeport on Monday, finishing in a tie for 10th place to qualify for the Class C state meet next week. Monie shot a 88. Mitchell won the team scores with a 331, Sutherland came in 5th overall with a 404. The Class C meet will be held at Kearney Country Club in Kearney next week. D-4 District at Loomis:
It was another sold day for North Platte Saint Pat’s on the course in Loomis, as the Irish won the team and individual titles, shooting a 322, 25 strokes ahead of second-place Overton. Teegan Sonneman paced the Irish, shooting a 75 to win the meet. Teammate Connor Hasenauer was just a stroke back at 76, good for second. The Irish’s Matthew Phelps shot an 84, good for seventh individually as well.
Sandhills-Thedford’s Brett Downing qualified for state as well, finishing in tenth with an 86. The Class D state meet will be held at Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte next Tuesday and Wednesday. Full results from the D4 meet are here.
D-5 District at McCook:
Mullen’s Brendon Walker dominated the field on Monday, winning the D-5 meet with a 74, eight strokes ahead of second-place Jhet Holthus of Hyannis. Walker qualifies for state along with Wallace’s Hadley Sayer, who shot a 93 good for eighth place. Paxton qualified as a team, finishing in third with a 409. Hyannis won the meet with a 379. The Tigers were led by Dane Storere as the Senior shot a 91, good for sixth overall. Teammate Jacob Holzfaster finished in the top 10 as well, shooting a 96th good for a tie for 10th overall.
