NORTH PLATTE – The 23rd annual G.R.E.E.N. fundraising event for the North Platte Catholic Schools was held on Saturday, October 25th at St. Patrick High School. Generating Resources for Educational Excellence Now is the largest single event of the year for the North Platte Catholic Schools EndowmentTrust, which serves as the fundraising arm for the Catholic school system. The event hosted over 200 guests Saturday and featured over 150 items on silent and live auctions. Though not yet final, Endowment Director Wendy Dodson estimates net proceeds will easily exceed $210,000. Proceeds support the Annual Fund of the NPCS Endowment, which supports the general operations of the North Platte Catholic School system.

A portion of the monies raised at G.R.E.E.N. will be designated for two special projects at the North Platte Catholic Schools. Over $58,000 was generated through the Fund-A-Need appeal, which is designated for school technology. Over $6,200 was donated to purchase classroom Wish List items submitted by McDaid, Little Leprechaun, and St. Pat’s teachers.

Dr. David Cantral of Kearney, St. Pat’s class of 1979, won the Heads or Tails prize and generously donated it back to the North Platte Catholic Schools. The G.R.E.E.N. Lucky Lotto awarded 9 cash prizes. Those winners were: Shelly Byrn, Cassidy & Brooke Odean, Krista Heiss, Mike Noffsinger, Jared Arensdorf (2012 alumni), Joel Nordquist (1979 alumni), Dan Phelps (1998 alumni), Lisa Troshynski, and Mark Hernandez. Winners of the three G.R.E.E.N. Spirit Wagons were: Cassie (2002 alumni) & Sean Condon, Trey & Dayna Wasserburger, and John Harper.

Dodson notes that many thanks are in order to the volunteers and sponsors who helped with G.R.E.E.N. Marty Troshynski donated his services catering the entire meal, The Lincoln County Feedyard LLC donated all of the beef served at the event, and Noffsinger family farms donated potatoes.

Since it’s inception in 2003, the G.R.E.E.N. event has generated over $2.6 million in support of the North Platte Catholic Schools.
