Knights split doubleheader against Broncos

Hastings, Neb. – The North Platte Community College softball team split a doubleheader with Hastings College JV on Tuesday.

Hastings broke the game open with eight runs in the second inning and added one in the third.

North Platte responded with three runs in the fourth, but Hastings added single runs in the fourth and fifth to stay in control. The Knights scored two more in the fifth but couldn’t close the gap.

Julia Leicht pitched four innings in relief, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks.

North Platte scored first in the opening inning on a Hastings error and added another run in the fourth.

Hastings got on the board with a run in the fourth before the Knights answered with a five-run fifth inning on four hits. North Platte added one more run in the sixth, while Hastings scored twice late, but the Knights held on for the win.

Kinsley Lawrence pitched four innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out two and walking four.

North Platte (3-31) returns home on Friday against McCook Community College, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m.
