On Thursday, July 31, 2025, officers with the North Platte Police Department responded to a series of escalating incidents involving a North Platte man, identified as Andrew Liewer, age 40.

At approximately 6:15 A.M., officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of West 1st Street for a reported disturbance. The reporting party advised they had been involved in a verbal argument with Liewer, who refused to leave the property. Officers made contact with Liewer, who agreed to leave the residence without incident.

At approximately 11:40 A.M., officers were again dispatched to the same residence following reports of a physical disturbance. It was reported that Liewer had returned to the home, forced his way inside, and began chasing an individual outside, throwing large rocks in an apparent attempt to cause harm. Liewer fled the scene on foot prior to officers’ arrival. A perimeter was established, and a department drone was deployed, but Liewer was not located during the search.

At approximately 2:15 P.M., officers responded a third time to the same address. Liewer had reportedly forcibly entered the residence again, this time chasing an occupant with a weapon. Another occupant was able to escape the residence safely. Liewer fled the area before officers arrived. In response to the escalating danger, the department issued a RAVE alert to notify the public and request assistance in locating Liewer. In addition, a department drone and the Nebraska State Patrol Air Wing assisted in the search.

At approximately 4:50 P.M., an officer spotted Liewer walking near Cody Elementary School. Following a brief foot pursuit, Liewer was taken into custody without further incident.

Liewer was transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center, where he was booked on the following charges:

  • Two counts of Attempted Second Degree Assault – Class III Felony
  • Terroristic Threats – Class III Felony
  • Use of a Weapon During the Commission of a Felony – Class III Felony
  • Disturbing the Peace – Class III Misdemeanor

The North Platte Police Department thanks the community for their vigilance and assistance during this incident. The Nebraska State Patrol and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office assisted in locating Liewer.
