Free Museums Admission This Saturday May 17th

Lincoln, NE – 05/12/2025 – Admission is free Saturday, May 17, at the Chimney Rock Museum at the Ethel S. and Christopher J. Abbott Visitor Center, Fort Robinson Historic Center in the Panhandle, Senator George Norris State Historic Site in McCook, John G. Neihardt State Historic Site in Bancroft, and Neligh Mill State Historic Site in Neligh.

The May 17 free admission day, sponsored by the Nebraska State Historical Society Foundation, includes special programming at Fort Robinson State Historic, Chimney Rock Museum at the Ethel S. and Christopher J. Abbott Visitor Center, and Neligh Mill State Historic Site.

Fort Robinson was established in 1874 and became one of the largest military instillations in the northern Plains back in the day. A tour of the historic site’s old parade grounds with stops at the black smith’s workshop, Cheyenne Barracks, and Adjutant General’s office kicks off May 17 at 9 a.m.

At Neligh Mill, Nebraska Humanities Speakers Bureau sponsors “Heroism on the Plains: Story Songs of Courage and Determination,” a story told through historic narrative and song beginning at 2 p.m. on May 17, with catering provided by Sly’s Family Bar and Grill.

Admission always is free at Sen. George Norris State Historic Site, John G. Neihardt State Historic Site, and Neligh Mill State Historic Site.
