Lincoln, Neb. – Despite two singles victories, the Nebraska women’s tennis team (2-1) fell to Harvard, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Dillon Tennis Center.
Juniors Anfisa Danilchenko and Ana Zamburek kicked off doubles play with a 6-0 sweep over Harvard’s Iveta Daujotaite and Angel You. The Crimson bounced back with Stephanie Yackoff and Holly Fischer winning 6-3 over the senior Husker duo of Raphaëlle Lacasse and Isabel Adrover Gallego on Court One. The deciding match on Court Three was a battle between Nebraska’s Maja Pietrowicz and Lucy Loy and Harvard’s Natalie Block and Sany Gawande. The teams forced a tiebreak, but Harvard prevailed 7-6 (4) and clinched the doubles point.With the Huskers trailing 1-0 overall, singles action started. On Court Four, Pietrowicz evened the match 1-1, as she defeated Gawande in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Lacasse won in straight sets on Court One against Fischer, putting the Huskers up 2-1 in the match. Then on Court Three, Crimson’s Maxi Duncan tied the match 2-2 with her defeat of Danilchenko 4-6, 4-7 before Adrover Gallego battled on Court Two, but fell to Yackoff in straight sets, 6-7, 3-6. The deciding match was between freshman Maria Taranova and Kate Kim on Court 5, where Kim was able to clinch the win for the Crimson in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6. The match on Court 5 between Zamburek and Block was left unfinished, 6-7, 6-3, 3-2.Up next, the Huskers will host Illinois State on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 11:00 a.m. (CT) at the Dillon Tennis Center.
