The Huskers women’s tennis team has announced an addition to the team, as Arkansas State transfer Maja Pietrowicz has joined the program.
“I’m very excited to welcome Maja to Nebraska,” Head Coach German Delmagro said. “I have known and seen Maja play for a few years now since we faced each other while she competed at MSU. She’s always been a very fierce competitor and a hard worker. She will be a perfect fit here with her commitment, discipline and passion to compete at a high level. She will make an immediate impact in our program and in the Big Ten. I’m very thankful she has trusted me to be her next coach to help her finish her college career.”
This will be Pietrowicz’s third stop in her collegiate career as she was previously at Michigan State for four season before her time at Arkansas State. The Clinton Township, Mich. native is listed as a graduate transfer for the 2023-24 season and has one year of eligibility remaining.
“I am extremely excited to become part of the Husker family,” Pietrowicz said. “To have the opportunity to return to the Big Ten is something I had never imagined and is a dream come true. I couldn’t have asked to join a better program that fits me both athletically and academically. With the leadership of German and Maddie, as well as the support from such an incredible team, I have a feeling this will be my best year yet. Go Big Red!”
At Arkansas State last season, Pietrowicz went 12-15 in singles and 14-15 in doubles play in 13 of 29 doubles matches playing at the top doubles spot. Along with her doubles partner, Mary Lewis, won two of three matches against nationally ranked doubles opponents. The pair played at the ITA All-American and ITA Fall Championships and reached a season-best ranking of No. 28.
