Officers with the North Platte Police Department responded to a shooting in North Platte on Monday, ending with the arrest of a 39-year old man.

At 4:54 PM Monday, officers with NPPD responded to the 300 block of South Bailey Street on reports of a victim with a gunshot wound. Once there, officers made contact with a 32-year-old man, who was identified as the victim in the shooting.

During the investigation, officers learned that the shooting occurred in the 200 block of North McCabe and that the victim had driven himself to the South Bailey area. Officers also learned that 39-year-old Ross Rivera was the other party involved in the shooting.

Officers then responded to the residence in the 200 block of North McCabe and utilized their Patrol Units PA system to contact the resident. The individual that exited the home was not Rivera. A search warrant was obtained and a search of the building was conducted. During the search, officers located two holes next to the front door. Officers also found a 40 caliber handgun along with two spent cartridges but did not locate Rivera.

Officers were able to contact Rivera later that day and took him into custody without issue. Rivera was initially incarcerated at the Lincoln County Detention Center on the charge of possession of a weapon by a prohibited person. The charges of 2nd degree assault and use of a firearm to commit a felony were added the next day.

This case is still under investigation.
