The North Platte First Nationals swept Overton in their home-opener at Bill Wood Field Tuesday, winning both Junior and Senior games in shortened fashion in five innings. The Juniors got the evening started jumping on Overton early, leading 9-0 after just two innings. They finished the game quickly, dominating en route to a 14-3 win. With that, the Juniors improved to 3-1 on the year.

Following, the Seniors kept the momentum in favor of the home team going, taking an early lead in the 1st inning 3-0 and scoring in every inning to end the game early, winning 10-1. Overton scored their lone run in the third inning. Avery Munson got his first Senior start and pitched well, going all five innings, giving up just one hit and one unearned run, while striking out four earning the win.

The First Nationals didn’t have a banner day offensively, only rattling off six hits, however patience played a key as they drew 11 walks in the win. Braiden Ruffin was 2-2 with 3 RBI to lead the Seniors. With the win, the Nats improve to 1-1 on the year.

Next up for both the Junior and Seniors will be a road trip to Ogallala tonight (Wednesday). Game times are 5:30 CT for the Juniors and 8:00 CT for the Seniors. North Platte will then host both Columbus (Saturday) and Norfolk (Sunday) for Cornhusker League doubleheaders this weekend. Huskeradio will carry all four games on 1240-AM/106.1-FM.
