Nebraska is among the best states in the nation to grow old in, according to a report from a senior care website. Tim Sullivan, vice president of Caring-dot-com, says the study examined a series of 13 categories, including financial, health care and quality of life. Overall, Nebraska placed fifth.

Nebraska’s number-five ranking is up from ninth last year. The top four states for growing old this year are: Utah, Iowa, South Carolina and Washington state.

Nebraska ranks fifth on a new list of best states to spend your golden years. The report looked at criteria ranging from costs to quality of life for best states to grow old in. Tim Sullivan, at the senior care website Caring-dot-com, says the Husker State moved up on the 2017 survey.

Nebraska hovers around the national median for costs. A private one-bedroom in an assisted living facility in Nebraska comes in around 42-thousand dollars per year. The cost of a home health aide here is about 53-thousand dollars, nearly seven-thousand dollars more than the national median.
