An interior pocket of unburned fuels is producing smoke just west of Jeffrey Reservoir, per the Cottonwood Fire Facebook page. The area burning is surrounded by previously burned areas. Similar behavior is expected for several days due to multiple unburned islands existing in interior portions of the fire’s perimeter. Resources are monitoring the interior of the fire while also securing the fire’s perimeter.
Additionally, burnouts and work is being conducted by the National Guard in the Jeffrey Lake area, per Brady Nebraska VFD on Facebook.
A new perimeter has been uploaded by the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) showing the fire to be 128,036.1 acres. The perimeter is visible on the Watch Duty map under the Active Fire Perimeters map layer.
