SCOTTSBLUFF, NE – Congressman Adrian Smith (NE-3) Monday expressed his support for the Fairness for Girls ballot initiative, a proposed Nebraska constitutional amendment intended to protect women’s and girls’ sports and ensure fair competition for female athletes.
The initiative seeks to establish constitutional protections for sex separated athletics in Nebraska schools, ensuring equal access to athletic opportunities for female athletes across the state.
Congressman Smith released the following statement:
“Every athlete deserves the chance to compete against their peers on a level playing field. I am proud to support the Fairness for Girls ballot initiative to protect the integrity of women’s and girls’ sports and ensure female athletes aren’t put at a disadvantage. Thank you to the Fairness for Girls Committee for bringing this commonsense proposal to Nebraskans and for your continued work to protect the integrity of athletics across our state.”
The Fairness for Girls Committee recently launched the initiative and submitted proposed ballot language to the Nebraska Secretary of State. If approved by voters, the measure would amend the Nebraska Constitution to establish protections for women’s and girls’ athletics.
