North Platte, Nebraska – Las Mañanitas Community Advocates (LMCA) is pleased to announce it has received a $2,000 grant from Walmart through its Spark Good initiative, further supporting the construction of a hydroponics greenhouse in North Platte. This generous contribution underscores Walmart’s commitment to addressing food insecurity and investing in community-based solutions.
The funds will be used as part of LMCA’s ongoing efforts to build a state-of-the-art hydroponics greenhouse on a three-acre site just east of the Poplar viaduct, in a neighborhood identified as underserved in access to fresh, healthy food. Once completed, the greenhouse will provide locally grown produce and microgreens to residents, local businesses, and nonprofit partners throughout the area.
Adi Fernandez, Director of LMCA, shared her appreciation for the support:
“It’s great to have Walmart helping us bring this idea to life. The greenhouse will provide healthy food options for the community as a whole in an underserved location, and we are grateful to have so many community members supporting this initiative.”
This project is part of a broader, three-phase initiative that includes plans for a community center and a business incubator to empower local entrepreneurs and expand educational opportunities. In addition to growing produce, the greenhouse will host farm-to-table workshops, educational programs on sustainable agriculture, and a weekly produce giveaway for families in need.
LMCA remains dedicated to promoting equity, access, and opportunity in North Platte, and the Spark Good grant represents another important step toward creating a thriving, resilient community.
