North Platte, Nebraska, May 6, 2026) – Visit North Platte hosted the 7th annual Excellence in Tourism Awards Luncheon on May 6th at Venue304. Forty-eight nominations were submitted from the public for the seven award categories. The ‘Excellence in Tourism’ awards recognize outstanding customer service at hotels or other lodging establishments, restaurants or other food service establishments, events, attractions, and retail as well as Volunteer of the Year and Hero of Tourism. The nominees can either be individuals or businesses.
The Visit North Platte Board of Directors selected the award winners from the nominees based on the nominations submitted. The winners along with summaries of their nominations are as follows:
Excellent Service at an Attraction – Cody Park Rides & Concessions

Cody Park Rides & Concessions originated in 1950 with the purchase of the 1913 HerschelSpillman carousel that still exist today. Over the years, five rides have been added, with the latest addition happening this spring. In 2025, Cody Park Rides and Concessions sold over 45,000 tickets, provided many free ride days, and sold over 75,000 ice cream cones- and that’s not even counting the sundaes, hamburgers, and everything else they offer on their menu. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, more than 10,000 vehicles pass through the magical holiday display at Cody Park Santa’s Workshop. Cody Park is a staple for locals as well as a welcoming summer and holiday destination for travelers.
Excellent Service at an Event – Sutherland Rodeo Committee for the Sutherland 4th of July Rodeo
The Sutherland Rodeo Committee exemplifies excellence in tourism through its leadership of the nearly 90-year-old Sutherland 4th of July Rodeo, a cornerstone of Western heritage and community pride in Lincoln County. A ten-time recipient of the Nebraska State Rodeo Associ
ation Large Purse Rodeo of the Year award, including a four-year streak from 2022–2025, the rodeo has grown into a four-day regional draw attracting competitors from multiple states. The committee continually enhances the visitor experience with improved facilities, familyfriendly activities, strong entertainment, and effective regional marketing, while also investing significantly in long-term upgrades such as new arenas, pavilions, and upcoming modernized chutes and viewing spaces. Beyond the rodeo, the committee supports year-round events, community engagement, and youth development through scholarships and programming, all driven by dedicated volunteerism. Their professionalism, innovation, and welcoming spirit ensure a high-quality experience for visitors and residents alike, making them highly deserving of recognition.
Excellent Service within a Hotel – Cody Odell of the Tru by Hilton

Cody Odell is a dedicated hospitality leader whose work as General Manager of Tru by Hilton and Director of Operations for Keenan Management reflects a strong commitment to exceptional service, team development, and community impact. With more than 20 years in North Platte’s hospitality industry, he consistently enhances guest experiences by leading by example, engaging personally with visitors, and fostering a welcoming, service-driven culture among staff. His leadership has improved operations, team morale, and overall efficiency across both Hilton properties, while his implementation of new technologies has streamlined processes and allowed staff more time to connect with guests and promote local attractions. Known for his authenticity, professionalism, and pride in his community, he continues to make a lasting impact on both guests and residents alike.
Excellent Service within a Restaurant – Donovan Santos of the North 40 Chophouse
Donovan was nominated for this award by the public multiple times this year, and all of those nominations expressed that Donovan is a standout in North Platte’s hospitality scene, known for his warm smile, genuine kindness, and exce
ptional ability to connect with both visitors and locals. As a bartender at North 40 Chophouse, he consistently goes above and beyond to create memorable guest experiences, building lasting relationships that have customers asking for him by name. His professionalism, reliability, and positive attitude set a high standard for both service and teamwork, while his natural leadership inspires those around him to do their best. Donovan’s talent extends beyond crafting great drinks. He creates a welcoming atmosphere where every guest feels valued, often serving as a local ambassador by sharing the highlights of North Platte. Deeply caring, dependable, and resilient, he embodies the true spirit of hospitality and leaves a lasting impression on everyone he meets. Excellent Service within a Retail Establishment – Tim O’Conor of The Sports Shoppe & Big Red Etc.
Tim consistently provides a welcoming and knowledgeable experience for every customer who walks through the door. No matter how busy the store may be, each guest is greeted with friendliness and a willingness to help. Tim’s deep understanding of sports and athletic needs, enhanced through collaboration with local podiatrists and physical therapists, allows him to expertly guide customers in finding the right fit and equipment. He shares this knowledge with his team, ensuring a high level of service across the board. Beyond the store, Tim and his staff are strong supporters of the community, contributing through donations, in-store promotions, and an annual shoe campaign that benefits North Platte and surrounding areas. His professionalism, dedication, and personable approach make him truly outstanding.
Volunteer of the Year – Bryan Solko
Bryan Solko is a dedicated and highly engaged community volunteer whose service spans numerous organizations and events throughout North Platte and Lincoln County. He serves as secretary for both the North Platte Downtown Association and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Posse and also contributes as a board member for the Canteen CruiseFest Car Show and the Nebraska Pony Express Association. In addition, he volunteers his time and energy at parades, the Platte River Fitness Series, the Lincoln County Historical Museum, and the Nebraska Cornhusker State Games, often assisting as an ATV rider and support volunteer. Known for his attention to detail, leadership, and willingness to step in wherever needed, Bryan consistently goes above and beyond in supporting community initiatives. His selflessness, generosity, and steady commitment to service make a meaningful and lasting impact across the region.
Hero of Tourism – Pals Brewing Company
Pals Brewing Company is more than a craft brewery; it’s a true champion for tourism in Lincoln County. Since opening its doors, Pals has become a destination that draws visitors off I-80 and gives travelers a reason to extend their stay in our community.
Pals has created an atmosphere that perfectly reflects the welcoming spirit of our region. Their locally crafted beer, elevated pub fare, and inviting indoor and outdoor spaces provide an experience that appeals to both visitors and residents alike. Travelers are consistently adding Pals to their stops because they know they will receive exceptional service and an authentic taste of Nebraska hospitality.
What truly sets Pals Brewing Company apart is its commitment to partnership and community involvement. The Pals team actively collaborates with other companies, businesses and organizations in North Platte and the region. They are constantly hosting events that bring people to this community.
