
A Rave Alert Thursday afternoon alerted Jeffrey Lake residents south of Brady of a large grassfire near Cottonwood Road and South Government Pocket in the Southeast Corner of Lincoln County. Westerly winds gusting to 44mph were spreading the fire rapidly. Homeowners in the path of the fire were urged to evacuate their homes and head to the Brady Red Cross and North Platte Rec Center for housing. Later in the evening, a notice was sent informing evacuees that the Brady school was open with food, water, blankets and beds.
Homes two to three miles south of Gothenburg were evacuated later in the evening.
A second fire south of Gothenburg near Farnam prompted evacuations in southern Dawson County.
More grass fires were reported in Garden County, west of Lake McConaughy, prompting evacuations for folks living north of Lake Mac to the Garden County line last night.
