Husker Softball Team Splits Thursday Games

Huskers Shut Out No. 12 Tigers

The No. 11 Nebraska softball team allowed no runs and downed the No. 12 LSU Tigers on Thursday in Clearwater, Fla.

With the win, the Huskers moved to 4-2 on the season with two wins over ranked teams so far. LSU fell to 6-1.

Alexis Jensen (2-0) grabbed the win in the circle after tossing 4.0 scoreless innings with just one hit and seven strikeouts. Jordy Frahm came in to close out the game and struck out four in 3.0 innings.

Offensively, Frahm went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double. Jesse Farrell, Hannah Camenzind and Samantha Bland added a double apiece while Ava Kuszak, Emmerson Cope and Lauren Camenzind each had a hit.

Camenzind singled in the top of the third and scored on a two-out Farrell double to give NU a 1-0 edge.

Cope singled to open the top of the fourth and Hoffmann reached and went to second on an LSU throwing error, which also scored Katelyn Caneda, who pinch ran for Cope. Hoffmann crossed the plate on a Bland sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-0. L. Camenzind walked and Frahm and H. Camenzind hit back-to-back doubles to make the score 5-0.

Bland doubled in the top of the sixth and scored on a Frahm single up the middle to extend the lead to 6-0.

 

Husker Comeback Falls Short Against No. 20 Georgia

The No. 11 Nebraska softball team had runners on first and second with two outs, down one, in the final inning on Thursday evening, but fell to the No. 20 Georgia Bulldogs by a score of 6-5.

Alexis Jensen (2-1) took the loss in the circle after allowing three runs in 2.0 innings. Addisen Fisher (3-0) grabbed the win for Georgia.

Jesse Farrell led the Huskers (4-3) offensively with three hits, two RBIs, two doubles and a home run. Kacie Hoffmann added two hits while Jordy Frahm, Hannah Camenzind, Ava Kuszak, Carlie Muhlbach, Samantha Bland and Lauren Camenzind had one apiece. Frahm also registered a triple.

Georgia opened up the scoring with a solo home run in the first inning to make the score 1-0. The Bulldogs extended the lead to 3-0 on another home run in the second.

L. Camenzind singled in the top of the third and scored on a Farrell double. H. Camenzind scored on a Kuszak RBI to cut the UGA lead to 3-2.

Georgia used three hits and an error to make the score 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth.

The Huskers continued to fight, as Bland singled and eventually scored on a Malia Thoms pinch hit sac fly to make the score 6-3.

Farrell trimmed the lead to 6-4 on a solo home run, her third of the season.

Frahm logged a triple in the top of the seventh and crossed the plate on a H. Camenzind single to make the deficit one at 6-5.

The Huskers will take on No. 3 Tennessee today(Friday). The game is set to start at 11 a.m. (CT) and will be televised on ESPN2 and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.
