Lincoln, Neb. –  The North Platte men’s basketball team fell 77-74 to Southeast Community College in the final seconds Wednesday night.

Brady Kennison led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting from the field, while sophomore Daniel Benjamin chipped in 13 points. Josh Osayanrhion closed out the night with 11 points accompanied by seven rebounds and three steals.

“It’s hard to win games any time you give up 19 offensive rebounds and have 17 turnovers on the road,” said head coach Jacob Brandl. “Obviously not having Justus on the court hurts.”

Southeast used a 13–2 run midway through the quarter to take a seven-point lead with 8:42 remaining. North Platte responded with a run of its own to take a 35-34 lead into halftime.

The Bobcats reclaimed the lead on an old-fashioned three-point play with 15:08 left in the second half and continued to build momentum, pushing the margin into double figures inside the final seven minutes. North Platte once again battled back to pull within two in the closing seconds, but a late layup ended the Knights chances at completing the come from behind win.

“We gave ourselves a chance to win, just needed the stop and we gave up a layup.” Brandl said. “No time to feel sorry for ourselves have to get ready for a really good Lamar team.”

North Platte (14-9, 6-2 Region 9 South) continues Region 9 South play at home on Saturday against Lamar Community College. Tip is set for 3 p.m. inside the McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.
