MAY 8, 2025 (LINCOLN, NEB.)  —   Summer is on its way! The Nebraska State Patrol is starting the summer travel season off strong with the Make It Click campaign.

“With the summer travel season just around the corner, our goal is to create a positive experience for everyone on the road,” said Major Jeff Wilcynski. “To do that, we all need to practice safe driving habits. Safe driving means following the rules of the road, always driving sober, and avoiding distracted driving. One of the most important practices for safe driving is wearing your seat belt.”

The Nebraska State Patrol will partner with agencies across the nation for the Make It Click campaign. This effort will begin on Monday, May 12, and will run through Sunday, June 1, covering some of the busiest travel weeks of the year.

Troopers will perform high-visibility patrols across the state, monitoring for dangerous driving behavior. During traffic stops, troopers will look for seat belt violations and thank the motorists who are already wearing their seat belt.

Joining NSP in the Make It Click kickoff event Thursday was the Nebraska Department of Transportation and Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Troopers and NSP dispatchers will work overtime to provide additional coverage during the busy start to the summer travel season. NSP’s portion of this campaign is possible thanks in part to a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation – Highway Safety Office. Any motorist who observes a dangerous driver can report it to the NSP Highway Helpline by calling *55 to reach an NSP dispatcher.
