Rod Dye, lifelong resident, and businessman of North Platte is announcing his candidacy for City Council Ward 1 including the southeast part of the city as well as the area south of I-80 in 2024.
Dye has been involved in numerous volunteer activities and organizations and served on the North Platte school board for six years.
Dye is a second-generation business co-owner of Cohagen’s Transfer and Storage and the Cohagen Battery Store. The Transfer and Storage company was purchased and operated by his parents Dallis and Connie and 30 years ago Rod went into partnership in the family business.
“My parents placed a great deal of emphasis on community involvement and giving back to the community through sweat equity and support, so I learned the value of doing so in my youth,” Dye said.
The 1979 North Platte High graduate has been a resident of Ward 1 for 37 years where he and his wife of 42 years, Crystal, raised their three children, all North Platte High graduates. His three children and five grandchildren all live in Lincoln County, where his grandparents first came and lived south of North Platte over 100 years ago, marking four generations of family as local residents.
“I watch the city council proceedings closely through the media sources and on-line presence. I was already very disappointed that one of our current Ward 1 representatives voted against commercial developments like the District 177 Mall redevelopment, expansion of Twin Rivers Business Park and several housing developments.
“When she voted against letting citizens vote yes or no on the Recreational Center upgrade, I made the personal decision that Ward 1 deserved better,” Dye said, “The people’s voice will always matter to me.”
Serving six years on the North Platte Area Chamber and Development Corporation board of directors, Dye was part of the board that put the current management team in place serving the 600 plus business member organization.
