The North Platte Police Department is warning the public of a recent trend of break ins to local’s vehicles in the area.
According to a post on their Facebook page, NPPD says there have been several thefts in the North Platte area from motor vehicles. As a result, NPPD released several ways to help yourself from getting broken in to.
Local police reminds you to remove all valuable items from your vehicles, including electronics, sunglasses, wallets, cash and loose change, sports equipment, cellphones, tools and other items of value. You are also reminded to not leave your keys inside your vehicles, as most thieves see this as an easy target.
NPPD reminds locals to always lock your vehicle doors and be aware of your surroundings, not assuming that every place you park your vehicle is protected from potential thefts. Try to park in well lit areas and park where you can easily see your vehicle, if at all possible.
You are encouraged to contact the North Platte Police Department if you see someone messing with vehicles that you know do not belong to that person.
