Huskeradio’s Tristen Winder Recognized at 2022 Nebraska Broadcasters Association Convention

Huskeradio News Director and KODY Director of Programing Tristen James Winder earned a top prize for the second consecutive year at the 2022 Nebraska Broadcasters Association Convention (NBA) on August 10th. NBA President Jim Timm presented Winder with the gold award in the Best in Depth or Investigative Story or Series division. The award winning story features an in-depth interview with Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts discussing the importance of protecting the state’s water rights. The full story can be found below:

In 2021 Winder also earned a gold medal award in the  best in-depth or investigative story or series category for his story titled, “Local Leaders Respond to Processed Meat Packing Plant,” a story that covered the proposed Sustainable Beef meat packing plant. His story included interviews with local and state politicians and leaders, giving their thoughts on the plant. In 2020 Winder received a silver award in the best continuing coverage of a news story category for potential changes at Lake McConaughy.

Tristen Winder first joined Huskeradio in 2016 as a part-time board operator and remote technician, but was promoted to News Director in 2017 and KODY Director of Programing in 2021. In addition to awards from the Nebraska Broadcasters Association  Winder also had a third place finish in the Sports Broadcasting Division of the 2020 North Platte Telegraph’s Readers Choice Awards and in 2021 had a second place finish in the Telegraph’s Radio Personality of the year category.

Winder is also the lead play-by-play voice for the “Game of the Week” on KX 104. Winder hosts the “Mid-Day Stampede” on KX 104 weekdays from 10-2 as well, along with the “90s at 9” on Friday mornings. In addition to his KX 104 duties, Winder hosts “Mugs in the Morning” weekday mornings  from 8-9 am on KODY, covering local news in great depth. Winder grew up in North Platte with a family history of broadcasting.

In his free time Tristen enjoys spending time with his family and friends specifically his grandparents and nephew. Tristen is an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in North Platte and serves on the Board of Directors for the Grand Island’s Diocese Teens Encounter Christ retreats.  He is also an active member of the North Platte Planning Commission, the Board of Directors for Lincoln County Crimestoppers, the Community Connections Advisory Council and the North Platte Optimists.
